Kankyo was built in 1926 as a house for a professor of Kyoto Imperial University. He chose this land of Kujoyama because the clock tower of his university was clearly seen from here. Kankyo’s 1260-square-meter garden was designed by the renowned landscaper Seigoro Motoi. Using the shakkei technic (incorporating background landscape into the composition of a garden), he arranged stones collected from all over the country and planted a variety of trees and flowers. Azaleas, paper bushes and cherry blossoms in spring, hydrangeas and paired sal trees in early summer, Japanese bush clovers and maples in autumn, camellias in winter... With sweet songs of birds, it is a real shichu-no-sankyo or a country house built in the city. The main building is a shoin-zukuri (traditional domestic architectural style. “Shoin” means a study alcove.) with an irimoya (hip-and-gable) roof. We have renovated the whole house trying to keep its original beauty such as a sukiya-zukuri tea ceremony room. A Western-style bedroom with three large windows is connected to the main building with a short corridor. The kitchen and bathrooms have been completely renewed. Kankyo is located at the base of Mt. Dainichisan. Enjoy staying there in the fresh air of Higashiyama, the lower slopes of Kyoto's eastern mountains.

3 days - 1day in advance: 50% of the total fee. No show: 100% of the total fee
Smoking: permitted only at the entrance lobby and in the garden. Store: It takes 15 min by walk to the nearest convenience store. We change towels once per 2 days. No Party: We are in a quiet neighborhood. The guest with heavy baggage should take a TAXI please. we are on the slope. If you want to bring visitors who are not included in your reservation, please notify us first. All the visitors must be out of the house by 9:00 p.m.
